Effects on the IRS due to the U.S Government shutdown

The article attached below from the Washington Post discusses how the IRS will need at least a year to recover from the recent US Government shutdown. It will take a least a year for the IRS to return to normal operations. With tax season coming up the IRS has to train employers to be able to answer taxpayer questions. The IRS has also lost 25 IT staff members a week since the shutdown started. These IT staff members got other jobs during the Government shutdown.

It will be interesting to see what will happen in 3 weeks time. How can the IRS prepare for tax season with so much uncertainty?
